afraid that he's sick

Postby kathy33 on Fri Aug 10, 2007 6:43 pm

I just bought two budgies two weeks ago. I was told that they were both about 3 1/2 months old. I just realized that there are no stripes and it is all white on the blue budgie's head and his irises are a greyish color and not all black like the other one I have is. So he is older than they said. He also has what looks like a chipped beak. I read up on this and found that mites can cause this to occur. He has a small crusty area across the bottom of his cere. There are no avian vets around here at all so there's no way of having him checked out. I don't know what I should do.

Since you've gotten no replies and I don't know budgies, my suggestion is that you might phone an avian vet to ask advice. It surely can't hurt, though Monday morning would be the earliest that would be possible. If you need contact information for vets I know who do phone consultations, I can PM some recommendations to you.

Before making that call, read at this site: http://www.exoticpetvet.net/avian/budgietiel.html About 1/3 way down the page, crusty beak is covered under Parasitic Disease.

I hope this is helpful and your birds are soon healthy.
