geophagus (earth eatters)

My budgies have delighted in digging in my window sill basil plants. They rip the basil out and dig in the dirt. I tried covering the basil but they don't care so long as there is dirt to chuck around.
Has anyone else experienced this?

In the wild, budgies are ground eaters... and not only that, but some pairs dig holes in the ground to nest in... so as long as the dirt as no fertilizers or other things that could be hazardous it's probably fine to let them.

A bunch of us from my budgie club provide our budgies with Picking Stone. It has minerals that birds need and love plus a small amount of crushed oyster shell. I put it in a bowl and put it in the aviary, my birds just love it!

You can order it from:

Foy’s Pigeon Supplies
3185 Bennett’s Run Road
Beaver Falls, PA 15010
1-877-355-7727
foyspigeon@zoominternet.net
http://www.foyspigeonsupplies.com

It’s a little tricky to locate this product. Once you log onto the web site you will see a small box at the top of the site. In that box will be 2007 Seamless Leg Bands. Click the arrow button on the right side and scroll down to Natural Products and click on that. The first item is the Natural Piksteen picking stone. You can order off the site or call and order from a real human.
