I am getting a BCC in April but I am taking in two a tiel and a budgie on Sunday from what I heard from the guy it is a good thing I found them! They are on an only seed diet and for about a month now getting way less then the attention they deserve my husband and I discussed it and since I am home all day he said we can go get them! My ? is this quaratine time for the conure he or she is going to be a baby! Also they told me the budgie used to be handleable what is the best way to get this little one to come out of his shell the tiel and the budgie live in the same cage the tiel they assure me is very sweet whistles steps up and loves to hang out on your shoulder! I would like to see all 3 get along any ideas??

Congratulations on your new additions. I would keep the new birds away from the baby for a bit. I'm surprised the tiel and budgie share a cage, but if it works for them, that is great! My tiels will eat budgies pellets and vice versa, though I have them on different seed mixes and my tiels like beans, rice etc, while the budgies aren't interested. As for making friends....a millet spray is almost sure to buy their love, at least long enough to eat it out of your hand (if they are not afraid of hands, in which case you will have to start more slowly). Looking forward to seeing photos of your babies and hearing of your progress. Best wishes!

keep budgie & teil away from conure

Take your time with the budgie & tiel. I have a couple of rescues who were neglected. I do not force myself on them at all. I keep them in my dining room where I let them observe all the going ons. I then later open their cage (after an initial wing clip) for them to come out & explore. They will eventually sit on your shoulder, head what ever but it takes TIME.
I NOT put the tiel/budgie in the smae cage as the conure. And when they eventually have out-of-cage time I would CLOSELY monitor them. A conure has a much larger stronger beak. remember that.

They are both darlings! What great fun.

Just got home from a Bird Mart & was amazed that almost all of the birds for sale had seed in their cage and no veggies or fruit. Since I was not looking to buy (who needs to buy when they land on my doorstep) I did not ask too many questions, but was pretty surprised!
