can budgies sense illness?

Postby karakittle on Mon Jan 22, 2007 9:50 pm

i have Tweeter and Woofer, and they are good birds i guess, becuase i am new at this and they have been here for almost a month. i have multiple sclerosis and i was wondering that if they are basically the same as they are in the wild, could they sense that i have this illness and leery of me? i read somewhere that when they are ready to fly away to a new territory, they leave everyone that is young and sick.

There is no reason they would perceive your MS as anything unusual -- they think all of us humans are a bit strange <g>

I absolutely agree with catschair - there is no reason why your budgies would be wary of you. Just be patient with them. They will soon get to know and love you. Are you able to let them out of their cage? As soon as you can get them to step up onto your finger, things should go better. Take it slow - I always say that birds are great at teaching us patience!

I have a 10 year old male budgie called Boo - he is the best thing that ever happened to me. He is out of his cage more than he is in. He has a flat topped cage, so is able to hang out up there most of the time where he can play with various balls and bells and weighted toys that hit him back on the beak! :D He is a real lovebug and has a huge vocabulary. The more you can put into your birds the more you ultimately get out of them. Boo understands basic commands like 'INNN you POP!' means it's time to go back into his cage - he does a high speed waddle over the top, abseils down the side to his outdoor perch and jumps in, closing the door behind him!!   He is just so funny and clever and an amazing friend. I feel it is now time to add to the 'family' so I am waiting for a baby Blue headed Pionus. This will be my first big parrot! But I will always love my special Boo.
