What is it?!?

Postby geas27 on Sat Jan 20, 2007 10:29 am

I need your help, guys. One of my birds is a Recessive Pied, and I can't tell if it's a boy or a girl. It's about a year old, it will sit and sing with my blue male or by itself, but it's also very dominant, aggressive, and chatters like a female. I'll post a few close-up pics as soon as I get my camera back. In the meantime....any educated guesses?

I know that recessive pied cocks have pink ceres and the hens have whitish, brownish, crusty ceres. I think some pics would help out a great deal. What's your birds name?

It WAS Bonnie.....until further notice anyway. I may change it to Buddy if I find out it's a boy.

The cere appears pink to me. You've got a male. Hey, Buddy! Good name..I used it for one of my males.

I figured if I keep a similar sounding name, it shouldn't confuse the bird too much. The silly thing confuses me because it's aggressive like a female, yet it bobs it's head and sings just like my male. The only thing I DO know is that it's a recessive pied, because it's eyes haven't lightened and they should have by now.

I know this post is old... just wanted to comment though...

I've had one budgie who was a definite male (blue cere and all!), and he too was quite aggressive/mean! It's rare to have an aggressive male, but it's not impossible either....

    how old is this budgie?

Sometimes the cere can appear bluish/purplish if it is a young female (as well as male) My baby female had a little bluish cere then as she matured it became a magenta/brownish cere.It is hard to tell when they are babies.
