need budgie advice......

Postby Bea on Sat Aug 14, 2010 8:45 pm

I have two male budgies & will be getting two more but the lady doesn't know their sexes. My question is this: what is the best way to introduce the new budgies to my other budgies & is there a procedure I can follow so that eventually they all 4 can be in same cage? I know that budgies will sometimes kill a new bird put in the cage. Any advice would be much appreciated. - Bea

You will need a very large cage to house 4 budgies in, or you could have two cages, side by side.
Initially, you will need to quarantine the new birds anyway so you will need a cage in any case.
You can generally tell the gender of baby budgies by their cere, if there is a lot of white around the "nares" (nostrils) they are female, an all pink/purple cere indicates male but there must not be any white around the nares, that is the main thing to look for :)

If you do decide you want all four in the same cage eventually, you will need to take it slow and introduce all birds whilst out of their cage(s).
Good luck anyway and post some pictures when you get your new babies :D
