Am I doing this right for a long move with birds

Postby LadyV on Sat Jul 17, 2010 4:34 pm

We are moving from Kentucky to Arizona by U-haul truck. The car will be pulled on the flat bed of the truck. Will the birds be ok in the car, with a seat belt and the windows down half way? I am so worried about them I am beside myself!!!!! It's a long trip and the blasted weather is hot. ANY tip and tricks will help. I know they can't tale a lot draft. I have three budgies that I have had for about 4 years and I love the little stinks!

It is super hot in the southwest right now, and I wouldn't trust that the birds would be cool enough. Can you put them into the cab of the Uhaul with you? Even in a pet carrier, that would be better than roasting in the other car.

I agree with Christie. Can they ride in the U-hall cab with you? It will be cooler, they can see you, and most importantly, you can see them. Good luck to you (and the budgies) on your trip and in your new home. Enjoy!

I agree, I don't think you can count on the car being cool enough under those circumstances, and if it's not, you might not know until it's too late. Do you think it would be cool enough for you? If not, or if in doubt, I wouldn't take the chance I would go with keeping them in the cab, even if you have to put them into individual carriers, so you can keep an eye on them. Good luck!

    Seriously BAD idea I'm sorry!
The temperature in a car gets up past 50 degrees (Celsius, sorry I don't do Fahrenheit  ) in a matter of a few minutes on a hot day.
Please DON"T do it, they will die from heat stress!
