Looking to buy a two new sweethearts

Postby StephanieDiana on Sat Jun 12, 2010 7:03 pm

well, hello everyone, im new names stephanie, im interested in getting to parakeets a boy and girl, im very excited. i know it can not be very good to get two if you want them to talk and be very intentive to you, but i believe with the right training i can accomplish this, if anyone knows a good place in maine to get parakeets i would love to know ty, I am going to get one called peace(yellow one) and one called love(blue one) i know basically everything to know about birds, but thought if anyone had any inside tips to help me on my journey that maybe you could share them with me, like maybe good food to give, and so on

It's been long yrs since I had budgies, so I'll let others give you fuller responses. I wanna say tho that, for the safety of the male, you'll need to house them in separate cages until they decide whether they like each other. During that time, you can befriend each of them, so they'll be bonded with you and, ultimately, with each other too. Important to get each bonded with you before putting them together!

I personally would get two boys, two handreared boys that is.
Females are quite often nasty and like Blues says, seperate cages would be best because who says they are going to like eachother?
If you were really serious about breeding later on down the track, you could set each male up with a girl but I must warn you, breeding is not as easy as most people think and if you just want two budgies to enjoy and to have as pets, why go for a male and a female, once again I would suggest two males.
Just my two cents worth

I used two have 2 boys then one died and the other escaped. Then i got a female to go with my bird that died named jack. But then Jack Died of Kidney falure  So know i have a female and a male. When they first got together, the female tried to push him around but then she figured out that she couldn't and they got along. I gave them a nesting box but they didn't mate. Anyways, get 2 males because they will get along better. Trust me it's more complicated with a female and a male! 8)
Ika,Mario,Cheeka,Rambo,Houdini,Pilot,Blueberry living all together happily as a family!
