We named him Rickie before we met him on Friday and it suits him well, so I think we are sticking to it! We have had the most wonderful weekend with this little budgie and I think we are extremely lucky to have been given the opportunity to adopt him. I never imagined he would be this friendly and easy to fall in love with. He is so sweet and comes to all of us to sit, chatter and play. He immediately took to his new cage and toys and seems quite comfortable with everything. He wants to get to know all of us and flys around the room landing on our heads. He loves to sit close to our faces and chatter and kiss. He is also happy to eat and drink with us close by. When we try to leave the room, he flys to our heads to stop us! I don't know where he came from, but he must have been treated well by humans because he is so very friendly. He is beautiful too (bright, bright blue, with some purple) and seems to definitely be a boy because he has the brightest blue cere ever! Also, some of his behavior when he is on our hands seems very male!! He gets very affectionate with our fingers and hands, fluffing up and chattering and bobbing about!
The funniest thing of all is that he seems to have really taken a liking to my husband ( who normally has nothing to do with our birds). Even though my husband was not doing any sweet talking, he insisted on being with him and everytime he tried to leave the room, he would fly onto his head. My husband's hair is thinning on top, so it was a little slippery in places and Rickie looked like he was skiing and sliding down the slopes! ha! ha! This happened so many times, that my husband ended up staying and playing with him for a while and I think he actually liked him quite a bit! We had to eventually get hold of Rickie and put him back in his cage temporarily so that my husband could leave the room.
So we are very, very happy about this new little member of our family and looking forward to introducing him and Raisin, our cockatiel. Rickie and Raisin. The quarantine thing is a bit of a pain. I hope they get along or at least don't bother each other.
