Moving to Germany!!!

Postby Kerrie on Fri Jan 09, 2009 2:42 am

Yep, less than a year after we get restationed in WA, we find out we are next in line to get orders to Germany! Talk about a shock! Guess that's the life of a military family! :)

So I need some help from those who may have gone through this before: We obviously cannot take all our pets and breeders with us. Most of our breeders will be sold, some given to friends for safe keeping, and one of our cats will go to family. We plan on taking our dog, two cats, and two pet parrots. Luckily, from what I've read, Germany doesn't have a quarantine period. Just have to be current on shots, microchipped, and USDA vet Certificate. I've found just this one little section on parrots:

Parrots, parakeets and budgerigars
When bringing parrots, parakeets or budgerigars into Germany (NB maximum 3 birds per person), the following is required:

- an official health certificate (see link below) issued not more than 10 days previously, certifying that the bird is healthy and that no infectious diseases have been found in the flock of origin or, if kept domestically, in the bird’s immediate environment within the last 30 days; AND the bird must be ringed with an identification number indicating its origin/breeder.

That doesn't sound too bad, except our U2 is a 15 year old rescue with no band and we have no idea where she came from. Any ideas? I'll have to get her an open band, obviously, but I don't know anything about where she came from other that someone dropped her off at my store one day and said they didn't want her anymore. Very sad, but then she became mt little pain in the butt and I love her dearly!

Does anyone have any experience bringing pets into Germany? Any tips/advise would be great!!! And if anyone is interested in my breeders, let me know! I have blue quakers, african greys, rosellas, greencheeks and lories. :D
Thanks!
