Black Mask Lovebirds Nestbox

Postby tweetebirds on Wed Dec 31, 2008 9:17 pm

I'm new to these little guys. Got the pair from a friend of mine. She said they sit great the first clutch and then would rather see what's going on then sit. She also said they LOVE building and rebuilding nests. I read that to curb this problem you should give them a parakeet box? Has anyone done this or heard of it? Seems a little small to me.

    Give them a cockatiel nest box;
    as long as it's not too cold,
    don't give them nesting materials,
    just use wood shavings on the bottom.
    They will nest as easily as peachfaces.

    They are indoors and have a Cockatiel box. It doesn't matter if I give them just bedding, lol. Right now she's sitting on 7 eggs and a brazil nut, last week it was a peanut. Anything that's not clamped down they are using as eggs or nesting material, including food, lol. It's actually kind of funny to see what they will have next. They are a very outgoing pair and love to see what's going on. Pretty cute little guys. I'll just keep the tiel box as I have a female peach face that I can use as a foster if they stop sitting.

    oops ! I checked my friend's boxes again, and they are parakeet boxes !
    However, if your birds are ok with the 'tiel boxes, it's better, as the
    smaller boxes get dirty too quickly and need to be cleaned
    quite often while the babies are still very young.

    I wondered about the size and since these guys have 7 eggs, what the inside of a parakeet box would like after all was said and done. I'll stick with the Tiel box and if they go back to the rebuilding I'll try fostering or a smaller box. Thanks! :D
