New CAG eggs

Postby jippypop on Mon Dec 01, 2008 12:48 pm

I just got my first pair of bonded Congo Greys the first weeek of October. I set them up as soon as I got them and never saw them again. They both stay in the nest box. I looked in on them Nov 1 and they had an egg. So I checked again on Nov 9 and they had 4. I want to make sure if the eggs hatch that they are feeding the babies. They are only bonded. My question is what is the first day I need to look in on them? I plan on pulling them at 2 weeks but I want to make sure they make it that long.
Thanks for any info.
Lisa

The end of the hatch date should be by the end of this week.
Unless you have other concerns, I would not check the nest
for another 2 weeks, and if you have babies, you should pull
them at that time.
If you have some experience, and if you will not disturb the parents
too much, you might be able to look into the nest earlier, like today.
It is often a needless worry that even new parents "won't know how
to feed the babies". Occassionally, this happens if the babies hatch too early
in the parent's cycle, or hatch too late, or in some cases if the hen
starts cycling another batch of eggs too soon.
Overall, just the fact that they laid a clutch so soon for you, is very good news.
