[quote="Greyskysaviaies"]I do SS everything I have because you never know what the Doc might find in there? DNA can not tell you the condition of the bird reproductively speaking were as Surgically sexing can.[quote]
As RJ will know, I recently had a baby Scarlet S/S with Dr. Scott. At that time I also had the blood work drawn for further testing with a lab of my choice. So after the simple Surgical Sexing procedure (less than $30.00 including a beak trimming, nails and feathers trimmed done with no stress because the bird was asleep anyway.) I sent in the blood work "knowing" what sex he was. This allows the lab to have specimens of S/S'd birds to coincide with blood testing (DNA) so their samples are concurred. It helps the lab and future participants having a current, up to date, DNA sample, verified. A control sample so to speak.
As for wild caught hens that dried up (Scott-speak... lol) yes I had one in the sanctuary. I never put her with a mate anymore. She was a pet-project from that time on. Those in our area who have the privilege of Dr. Scott never second guess him. Like the old saying... When Scott speaks everyone listens.
P.S. (Rj) Mojito is now in a wonderful home with Carolteacher (here in up @ 6) in Branson Mo. She is very delighted with her Christmas Present from her husband. And from what I hear has her hands full... he was a delightful Scarlet to raise and I'm happy he found a terrific forever home
