Greenwing breeding question

Postby Mark's Parrots on Sun Jul 13, 2008 8:55 pm

Hello,

I have a pair of greenwings that were doing great this season. They had two cluches with four eggs each. Well, they are now on their third cluch and the hen only laid one eggs i didn't think anything of it besides she was getting ready to shut down for the season. Well, when that egg was 14 days old she laid another one then seven days later she laid a THIRD one. So, the first egg is 21 days older than the third egg. Has anyone had this happen. i wouldn't think they would mate while she was sitting on the first egg. Any help would be great.

Have you candled any of the eggs. If none are fertile I would remove nest box and give her a rest. Although it is rare for a greenwing to mate while sitting on an egg its not entirely impossible. The only way to know if the eggs are good is to candle them or play the waiting game. Good luck.
