    Species, not breeds.

Unweaned chicks usually sell for less than fully weaned chicks... because there is less commitment from you in handfeeding the chicks, thus less supplies used in raising them. (at least this is what I've noticed, as I am not a breeder) If your seeing them sell for $250-$300 for weaned, then I'd say $300 is a good price for unweaned...

However, it is of my opinion that it is irresponsible to sell unweaned chicks because too many people, never having done so, think it's easy and end up killing the chicks due to ignorance... unless of course you can find people who are competent in handraising chicks.

Why didn't you know that everyone knows how to feed baby birds... Laughing at that comment !! Let's start with pricing the babies.Supply and demand are what makes a bird at a certain price. Also where you live will make a difference. For an example I owned a bird store in Indy and sold my grey tiles for $65.00 and in Chicago the smae bird went for $125.00. So you see it depends on where you live as to how some birds are proced and whether there is even a call for your type of baby birds, which by the way are great little starter birds. I would say that wholesale on your babies could be in my old market from $125.00 to $175.00 per baby unweaned and weaned in the store was around $300.00 or more if we had not had this type of bird in a few years offered to us and we knew that there wasn't any competition out there from other places that sold birds or breeders.

If you are comfortable with the person whom is buying your babies and they seem to know how to feed and they are feathered in enough to either airship or send off with them picking the birds up that is up to you. Just because I choose to feed in the center of the mouth and not the side does not make me a bad feeder. I know my birds and how to feed them and in the 10 years at my store I have fed over 2,800 birds and so I feel as though I know what I am doing by now. Ask the person how many babies have they fed and if they have a vet that does birds in their area if they do have a problem. Once again if they give you what you feel like is a quality answer then go with that person and tell them there is no guarantee on unweaned birds.

I hope this helps and everyone has an opinion as to how they would handle this situation. This is mine and I hope that it is a little bit helpful.

I read my posting over and saw my mistakes in spelling and I sold tiels and not tiles as well as my other mispelled words. Sorry as I was hurrying.

You can edit your post by clicking the lower right hand "edit" button as long as there is no other replies after yours.

I'm still miffed about your hand feeding techniques, and asked myself, "Where did this come from?" "Is this a hold over reply from another post?"

AAV hand feeding states, "an angular feeding position so the entry points into the birds right hand side rearward, not directly in the center. This implies feeding on the left hand side of the beak pointing toward the right side with a "pipette, syringe, or catheter." Also even if your spoon feeding how does one put in spoon directly in the center and expect any amount to go in when your dealing with hook bills?

P.S.- Wow.... 2800 birds, that is extra special!

I hope you have come up with a price for your babies by now and that they all are sold quickly.
