Problem with B&G Macaw sitting on eggs

Postby tkmacaws on Wed May 28, 2008 5:53 am

hello, I have a strange question. I have several sets of breeders, and I do not usually have any issues, however I purchased a set last year which was in poor shape, and was told that were both 10 years old, had eggs before. I have had them on an excellent diet and they are doing great. I put on a nest box, and they immediately started using it. I now have noticed two eggs in the box, and the birds are very aggressive when I go near to feed them. My question is I have noticed the female out of the box sometimes, and I looked and both eggs are just sitting in there. The male spends alot of time in there when the female is out, but I do not know if this is normal that they are not constantly sitting on them. Can anyone advise? Thanks very much.

Is this really a proven pair? Or a pair who didn't produce so were just sold off? I've heard that with different pairs, the birds may not sit on the eggs as much as others... so long as it's not too hot in the nest, I havent any suggestions.
