Old eggs still in box and she laid another. I need help!

Postby spiritwolf46 on Thu May 08, 2008 5:19 pm

I posted a while ago about eggs being in a nest box when I bought my pair of lovebirds. I have left them alone. The person I bought them from was unsure when they were laid. Now, there is another one two weeks later. I am afraid that the stress from the move has prevented the other eggs to go any further (they were fertile) and she has laid again. My question is, should I remove the first eggs to prevent them from rotting and harming the new egg, or just remove them all, the nest box too and let her rest?

I sure could use the help.

She made some really ticked of noises this time when I checked to see if the eggs were still there. She did not really seem to care on the others.

Soooooooo confused here.

Thank to all in advance.

It's obviously been a long time since your posted your dilemna & I'm responding, but I hope this helps:

I don't know how long your bird's incubation period is, but if you already know (or are unsure I know of a few sites that may help if needed), your bird's eggs should be removed I'd say after the 7th full day incubation ended. In other words, if your incubation period in 12-18 days, wait at least another 7 days & then discard their eggs. This would help in several areas: Now that their acclimated to your residence they'll start a new routine, whoever sits won't get discouraged & above all, Yes, the eggs will start to stink after a while which may complicate their nesting area/abode (may need another).

Hope this helps if not now but for future. Hope your fairing well in Ohio w/wet weather.
