Noisier Birds in Bird Room

Postby Coast to Coast Aviary on Tue Apr 29, 2008 1:41 pm

I have 2 pair of African Grey 2 pair of Vos Eclectus and 1 pair of Blue and Golds in one room I am concidering 1 more pair of blue and golds.
my question is does anyone have a combination of macaws and greys in one room and are they ok..first of all my blue and golds are quiet but my fear is they will get loud with another pair in there..just looking for similar experiences and there outcome.
thanks Lenny

I think you should use visual barriers for sure if you go that route and I know Greys are quite different and really want to be more secluded type set up and usually do better in a bit darker areas than some other birds such as Macaws. I don't think Greys like a lot of loud noise when it comes to breeding time. As you know Macaws are or can be very noisey.

I am no breeder, so can't comment in that area....

But the only issue I see would be housing greys and macaws in the same room.. which could cause pulmonary hypersensitivity syndrome in the macaws....

This is such an easy question to answer. For every pair of loud birds that you add you make sure that you don't have any African species in the same room. Greys and other African birds DO NOT like to breed in a loud area. They are quiet birds that will breed in the same room with senegals, jardines, red bellies and timnehs. The loud birds breed with loud birds, but you have to realize that greys are not form the same part of the world as macaws and they just do not like the noise. Greys also like a darker area for breeding and that is one of the secrets to successful grey breeding. I try and keep less light going into their nestboxes then any other species that I have raised. This goes for the other African species as well. So reduce your greys and sight block the macaws and enjoy!!
