My fingers are crossed for you. What I usually say when folks ask if I'll give their bird a home is that I'll consider it if they'll have a vet exam done with comprehensive bloodwork, including liver function, specific disease testing, and dna sexing, if not already done. Their vet must fax the results directly to my vet, whose opinion will determine whether further testing is warranted or if I should say
Yay or
Nay to bringing the bird into my flock. And they must pay any transportation costs. I think spelling out these details early in the process makes it very clear that I'm doing them a favor by taking the bird, if I do ultimately, and ends any discussion of an adoption fee.
