Postby macaw75 on Sun Mar 09, 2008 12:07 pm

This is the first time we have built a cage using welded wire. When using vinegar to remove the zinc off ff the welded wire, do you use it strait? or is it deluted? If so how much vinegar to water?

I use it straight with a wire brush and let air dry.

Thanks. Do you later rinse to make sure the smell is gone?

Before I unroll the roll of wire, I pour a couple gallons of straight white vinegar on top of it and let it trickle down. I let it air dry...usually in the sunshine for a couple of days. It usually turns a really chalky white. Then I hose it off, unroll it and begin building. Once the cage is built, I use a garden sprayer and spray the entire cage down again, let it dry and then hose it off with water a second time.

I use 3 parts water to 1 part vinegar... worked great and no issues with the smell.
