Well, as I have just witnessed. I to have a pair of Timneh's. Bought them 2 years ago. They laid 5 to 6 batches of infertiles (some was fertile just not sat properly). I removed the box for about 6 months. Built them a new one when I returned it to them. They immedietly laid another batch (2 eggs). And to my surprise they hatched one!! Then ATE it.
It's been another month since the first batch back and on Easter Morning I heard a CHEEP!! I know have 2-3 babies in the nest. I hear them as I am typing. The parents seem to be feeding fine.
When I bought the pair I was told that the Female was a pet they tried to make a breeder. I am not sure how long she had them but it was apparent that they had not laid and hatched before. Everything is going great.....just took them 2 1/2 years for them to figure it out!!
It's up to us to preserve for Tomorrow the beauties of Today.

Timneh Breeding Question

Postby macaw75 on Fri Mar 28, 2008 9:10 am

It's great that you finally got babies. It does seem my original question has gotten way off track and never answered though.

Again, I have a wild caught pair that has been checked & scoped and are more than capable of producing babies, but continue to lay clear eggs. DOES ANYONE HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH A PAIR LOOSING INTEREST IN EACH OTHER? Were you able to get them to take interest in each other again? If so, how? I really hate to have to re-pair them. Right now I have them seperated and the box removed, in hopes that when I eventually put them together they will breed (and not just the hen laying eggs). Thanks...

You've only had this Timneh pair for less than a year. I think it's a little early to consider pairing them with other mates. Breeding pairs, particularly African Greys, can take quite a while to adjust after relocating them to a new home. The breeder I got my two Congo pets from retired. It was over two years before the new owner had babies from either pair. A woman I know had to sell her pairs because she took in her granddaughter, who has asthma. I bought her Timneh pair, which had given her babies. It has been almost two years since I brought them into my home, and they have not produced for me. Sometimes I think part of the problem is that they are calling back and forth to my two pet Greys.

Timneh Breeding Question

Postby macaw75 on Sat Mar 29, 2008 11:48 am

Thanks. Hopefully that's all it is. They are happy being in a room by themselves. Lot's of privacy. They do call to my pet Greys every evening but that certainly doesn't bother the hen. She is already trying to "nest" in the bottom of her cage. Tearing up papers, etc. I go in a few times a day and clean out the mess in hopes she will get ot of the mood. She doesn't seem to care if the male is in the cage with her or not.
