Question about the Aquarium brooder tops

Postby TrulyParrots on Mon Feb 04, 2008 7:30 pm

I'm looking to purchase a brooder. As soon as I think I have my mind made up, someone else has an opinion and now I'm not so sure anymore. UGH!

I was looking a the Aquarium brooder tops, (not my first choice at all) but I'm curious, does anyone have one of these? How are the babies getting humidity? Anything that I'm reading on them isn't really saying so I'm confused.

Personally I'm stuck between a Brinsea and an Avey. Just not sure which and I need to get on the ball because I have babies I have to pull in about 10 days.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
We've had both the Brinsea TLC and now have the Avey. I LOVE the Avey. The TLC is NOT digital like they claim. It does have a digital readout, but you can't turn the dial and expect the readout to go to the temp you want it. You have to turn the knob and wait until it levels off to see what temp it is. So if it's accidentally bumped or turned you are basically screwed.
The Avey with humidifier is great. It is totally digital. You adjust the temp and humidity readout to what you want and it goes there. Has high and low temp alarms and a pass code, so no accidental changes. The humidifier works excellent along with the brooder. Well worth the money!
    Hope it helps :)

Thanks! I've basically done the "do-it-yourself" brooders in the past. I bred tiels and I've handfed everything from lovebirds to macaws but I'm getting into the more serious breeding and I need to get proper equipment. I would rather pay the extra money and get something reliable.

I don't want to skimp when it comes to the lives of these little ones.
