incubators

Postby diana5000 on Wed Jan 16, 2008 5:01 pm

Hello,

Is there any other good incubators for hatching out macaw eggs beside the grambach incubator. I am not having much luck with it. Thanks for the advice. :)

Look into the R-comm 3 egg. I know it's only three eggs but if you need more get them, it's worth it. I like the smaller amount limit to better control each when they start to hatch. You can keep better records and follow the process closer.

I have a very fussy hen and when things develope I use them. Own three of these and have put two of them to use sucessfully. They are fully automatic, with egg turning capabilities, computer controlled humidity, count down to hatch, auto turn stop, etc..

Can't beat the price too! Good inusrance to have as a stand by.

What problem are you having with the Grumbach? How old is it? You probably have to change out the circuit board. This should be done periodically as they burn out. I would also NOT use the built in water container for humidity, use a seperate easy to change/clean container on the bottom of the incubator. We use plastic film developer trays. I would also not rely on the thermometer, but invest in a laboratory quality thermometer and use that in you incubator or use it to calibrate your thermometer. We use Grumbachs almost exclusively. We do have some old Humidaires, but use the Grumbachs for most species.

We have tried the Brinseas and the Alpha-genesis and did not like them. The only Brinsea that I know of that did okay was the Octagon 20, but it is not good for incubating from day one eggs. It was decent for finishing the incubation on eggs that have been partially incubated naturally.

The other option is to use good quality brooder chicken hens to incubate eggs. We also use hens for some species and they do a great job, but you need to pull parrot eggs into an incubator/hatcher before they hatch as the chikens will kill parrots if they hatch under them.
