I have been raising Red Bellies for several years. I charge $400 for females and $450 for males. I have purchased babies for my future breeding program, for up to $500 plus shipping. 50% of the weaned price is the average out of nest price on most birds.
My price difference is based on the fact that most people want males, because of their belly color, and also the thought that only males can talk. This isn't true, and females often get passed by. Females CAN talk, and they are little sweethearts, but don't sell as well because people don't know that "secret". So, for now, the price is dropped.
I almost always have a waiting list for the Red Bellies - up to a 2 year waiting period.
There are also sub species of Red Bellie that aren't as large or as colorful as the Rufiventris (nominate) species. I think the Rufiventris should command a higher price, because of the size and coloring. The buyer should do their homework before purchasing.
