Breeding Alexandrines.

Postby footballfan on Thu Aug 09, 2007 12:14 pm

I have a couple of questions about my pair of Alexandrines. First I have been reading many articles on the web about Breeding Alexandrines and it seems as if each article contradics the other. My questions are. How many days apart are the eggs layed? How many in a clutch? How many days of incubation? This is a young pair and this is their second clutch this year. The first clutch of 3 eggs were not fertile. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

If your pair is laying eggs, this is very early for Alexandrines. Our pair usually lays in fall/late fall. Nov-Jan. When we purchased our pair there was hardly anything about these birds as far as information. So I will give you help as to what our pair does. They produce 3 eggs each clutch, usually every other day. Out of them 2 are always fertile. Usually 23-25 days, depending on when she actually started to sit on the eggs.

The sweetest birds until she's getting ready to lay then she turns into a b&*ch. I can usually tell before they even go in the nestbox, as the male leaves the female a lovely present in the water dish ALL the time before he's in the mood for love.

Hopes this helps some. Good luck with them! They are great birds!

most birds excluding game birds tend to lay an eggs a day apart, so every other day. i would assume incubation would be rather close to that of other parrots around 23-25 days or so. I never had a pair of Alexandrines before but I can suggest you surf the web to fidn other breeders of Alexandrines and ask them questions as they would be more familar with the breed
