Unferite eggs

Postby Abeds Aviary on Tue Jul 17, 2007 6:35 pm

i have a pair of White cap pionus. I paired them up around 1 1/2 year ago. They have laid 4 clutches of 2, 3, 3, and 4 eggs. None of the eggs have been feritle. Is it time to try a new male. The female is a pet and when she comes out of the box she will still let me pet her on her head. Is she to much of a pet. Is there anything i could be doing wrong. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi You might try to use Breeder aid and Calciboost. You can get it at www.justbirdstuff.com The breeder aid helps the male getting into the breeding . You may try a different style nest box to. good luck. Mark

After 4 clutches of duds I would start to wonder about the pair having healthy reproductive organs!

infertile eggs

Postby alhee on Wed Jul 18, 2007 4:45 pm

After 2 or 3 infertile clutches in one breeding season, you can almost predict that any following clutches for that season will be infertile, because at that point, the nutritional reserves for healthy eggs has been used up. Remember, these are not chickens ! On the other hand, if this is their first breeding season, I would not be worried. There is always hope for next year !

Unferite eggs

Postby Abeds Aviary on Wed Jul 18, 2007 8:26 pm

This is their first season. I have had the female for about 3 years now and she never laid eggs until about 2 weeks after i put the male in with her. She has only been sitting on these eggs for about 1 1/2 weeks, i still have them with her. Should i take them or let her keep sitting so she dose not get used to me taking the eggs and then she might not sit or take care of the babies? Thanks for your help
