Love Birds sex behavior

Postby jrhbull on Wed Jul 11, 2007 6:15 pm

I have 2 lovebirds one is a peach face and one is a black mask.I had a male mate for my black mask female but he died so someone gaven me this peachface and said it was a male.Well i kept them together until the peachface took over the nest box and kept flareing its beak at the black mask.So now were guessing they are both females?? Anyone know about this behavior??So i seperated them and both are doing fine, but the peachface is really nesting but as far as i know it lived alone before i got it.Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks

They ARE different species of lovebirds, thus I suggest keeping them separate. I also suggest removing the nestbox to help "calm down" the peachface. If you plan on letting them breed, be sure you get a mate of the opposite sex, SAME species, of correct age, and that all are healthy and on a good diet (NOT just seeds). I also suggest reading up on breeding, handfeeding, weaning, crop problems, etc BEFORE letting the birds breed.
