Very Red Yellow-sided GC

Postby Kerrie on Mon May 21, 2007 2:13 am

I have one pair of greencheeks that produces yellow-sided females and split males. The parents are yellow-sided (male) and visually normal (female). I recently got back one of the babies that is now a 5 month old yellow-sided female, and noticed that she has WAY more red on her belly than I've ever seen before. It's on her belly, up her chest and throat, and there's pink hues around her neck and reaching up near her eyes. Pics are below, although you can barely tell. The pics do not do the redness justice.

I was thinking about holding this girl back for future breeding stock, but I'm not sure what I'd pair her with to get more of that gorgeous red coloring. Does anyone have any ideas as to how she got so red or what I should pair her with later on?

    Your bird is very attractive.

Here is a picture of one of my yellow-sided greencheeks. This coloring is what I consider to be the norm and not the exception for this mutation.

I don't know if you have had many babies or not, but I think you'll find that the red coloring is what you should expect.

I have my ysc paired with the cinnamon mutation and they produce ys and cinnamon.
