Gouldian Finch chick photos

Postby christie on Sun Apr 08, 2007 9:55 pm

My chicks are starting to color out nicely and potential buyers are asking for photos of the chicks. I have tried several times today/tonight to photograph them, but they won't sit still. I also tried catching them to photograph in my hand, but that was too hard too.

Any ideas on how to get photos of their colors coming in?

    Christie,

Does your video cam support single frame extraction? If so, just shoot video and extract the best frames as pics. Short of that, have you tried a distraction that causes them to be somewhat startled or freeze, but not panic?

    Hi Christie,

On my gouldians, basically just patience works best. I just sit in front of the cage with the camera up to my face, open a feed door (hate cage bars in the pics LOL!!) and just sit and wait. They have an innate curiosity just like all finches, and if you sit still long enough, they'll eventually come over to investigate you and the camera, have got some great pics that way!

    Good luck

I'll try that out! They are just so flighty in a group that it makes it hard to take a photo. I'll post them here when I finally get them!

Well, I ended up having to hold them all still and have my husband take photos. It was really quick and I could do a quick check of each individual bird too.

Here they are, as promised, baby finch photos!!! You can see them all on the site, but I will include one photo here.
