breeder turned pet?

Postby Sunny on Tue Dec 19, 2006 4:20 am

I came across a beautiful bird this weekend while at a bird fair.
She is a 14 year old Hy and had lost her mate. When talking with the breeder that owned her, the bird kept saying "come here" the breeder had been telling me the story of how after she lost her mate she started talking and had become a wonderful pet. She really didn't want to sell her, but had someone interested, so she brought her to the show. The bird kept on until she got off her perch to the owner and proceeded to head my way. The breeder said this is the first time she has done that!
Needless to say, I played with the bird and she is truly a lover was letting me pet and play with her.
So before I get to long on this thread my question is, how often do breeders change from being a great breeder to a great pet? I have never even considered getting a bird in this manner, but there was a bond there.
Any feed back would be greatly apreciated!

There are some birds that can make the transition from breeder to pet very easily. There are some breeders that are as gentle as pet birds and still have mates and reproduce.
From what you have said, if this was me, I wouldn't hesitate for a moment after reading what you wrote.
There might be some small issues you will have to deal with, but I'm sure in time, they will seem small in the scheme of things.
It sounds as if this bird did have a special attraction to you.
Good luck.

Thanks Featherkeeper....
It is funny to go to a bird fair looking for a mazanitta perch and end up falling in love with a 10,000 dollar bird, UGH!
And you are right, there was definitely a connection! That's something that doesn't happen every day! LOL Thank goodness!
Thanks again you're a great help!
