fertile eggs

Postby featheredtreasures on Thu Nov 30, 2006 10:51 am

I dont know if its illegal in the U.S., but it is from out of the country and most of those "fertile eggs" ads are from out of country scammers...they will just take your money and you wont see anything for it. Think about it, how would you transport fertile eggs...I would imagine it would be a VERY risky and dangerous process and the chances of the eggs making it OK would be very slim. I would not try and purchase any if I were you.

A little late in reply. To know if an egg is fertile it would have to be incubated for a while to tell. You would have to keep it warm so not to cool. Any shaking would ruin the egg especially in parrot eggs. Buying any eggs I think would be wasting your money. I myself would not buy or sell any egg with the idea of it being fertile a I would have no way to tell.

Not only is it very risky if its not a scam but handfeeding just hatched chicks is a different world from just handfeeding parent started chicks. I mean some chicks need fed every half hour! Are you ready for that? As well as having a good incubator and a brooder.

    fertile parrot egg scam

Postby tmi on Sun Apr 29, 2007 3:54 pm

Whenever you see an ad selling fertile parrot eggs, don't buy them! If they really are parrot eggs and really are fertile, they will be dead by the time they get to you. To transport a fertile parrot egg and have it live is a real trick. You can do it, but it is really hard. You need to take something like a bread bag and partially fill it with air. Insert the bag into a tall container that is big enough to fit the bag with the air, some cotton on the bottom and 1 egg. The egg has to fit snuggly but not too tight. You'll need to place the whole contraption in a portable incubator to keep it warm. You can then drive very carefully home. The bag makes a cushion that will absorb the vibrations and chances are, you'll be able to save the baby. As far as I know there is no way to ship parrot eggs and have them live...even overnight. Better to skip trying, you'd probably just get ripped off.
