I think I saw your other post on this issue but I can't remember if you said they were siblings or if they were a bonded pair. If they are not a proven breeder pair (laid eggs that were fertile) then they may be same sex. This may be the reason they are fighting. 5 years old is a little past the prime of a lovebird so at this point, they would not be able to breed. If they are siblings, squabbling is not that odd but full out fighting can be dangerous. I would keep them seperated. If they were my birds, I might get them DNA sexed and find them older retired breeders to grow old with, so they have company and will stay happy. Another simple solution you can try is get them a huge cage, or an aviary. The extra room maybe what they need at this point. Do they have something in their cage that they hide in like a snuggle hut? If they do, I'd give them another one. If they don't, then don't worry about it since something that looks like a nest can stimulate breeding behaviors that at their age may be harmful the their health. Good luck with them!

At 5yrs old, they aren't past breeding age, not that I'm reccomending you try and give them a nestbox. In fact, if they have any kind of happy hut or other such structure in the cages, I'd remove them because they can trigger hormonal behavior and egg laying in hens.
Are these birds tame and able to come out of the cage? If so, some out of the cage playtime together would be a good thing and you can then cage them seperately. If the fighting was serious, I wouldn't try putting them back together. Sometimes a several week seperation will calm things down but if they've had more than one serious scuffle, it's dangerous to leave them together. Then again, if there was a nestbox or happy hut involved, removing it may pretty much solve the problem. Two hens will fight very hard for ownership of that kind of territory.
