hen not laying eggs

Postby JeffCase on Thu Feb 18, 2010 6:51 am

I have a dna'd female orange wing Amazon. I am not sure of her age but do know she is an import. I have had her approx. 3 years and she has never laid an egg! I have never had a male with her so my question is. Is she past the age of laying or would a male and a nestbox possibly stimulate her to lay. Thanks For any info/input anyone might have Jeff

I do not have any experience with amazons, nor with breeding, however I have heard that a hen can breed throughout her entire lifetime, but have also heard reports that some birds can become sterile due to genetics, poor diet, health.

Some hens may never lay an egg in their entire lifetime, while others may lay only a few, or quite a lot.

If you are interested in breeding her, you could try setting her up with a mature male.
