Female Amazon passed

Postby ABirdShop98 on Mon Oct 19, 2009 9:30 am

I have a breeding pair of Blue-front amazons. They laid a clutch of 4 eggs that are all fertile. I came in Sunday and found the female laying in the bottom of the cage panting. The male was sitting on the eggs. After looking her over I noticed that she looked egg bound. She had a swollen bottom that was hard to the touch. She ended up passing away. My question is this, the male is sitting on the eggs. He is coming out every once in a while to eat and drink and then goes right back to the eggs. Should I pull the eggs and put them in an incubator or let him continue to incubate them himself?

Either you had 2 females, and the eggs are not fertile,
    or the male died.

I would pull the eggs and incubate them. The male may sit them for awhile but will probably not hatch them out. Good luck and sorry about your hen!
