Hello, I am getting ready to set up pair #2 of hahns macaws and I have a few ?'s. Pair 1 is outdoors and doing great, showing all the signs you want in a bonded pair. Pair 2 is still not set up yet. Male in quarantine, and female can only hear him. What is the best place to position the cages? Do mini's need partitions? Can they be in view of other parrots? My other breeders consist of amazons (3 pairs), and GCC's (4 pairs). Pair 1 is housed in a 4x3x4 cage. My intentions are to house pair 2 in the same size cage. I have other breeder cages to choose from. I can go bigger or smaller. Would a 6x3x3 flight be a better choice for them? I know bigger is usually better, but for some species, bigger plays a negative role in their productivity (like A. greys). My experience is with amazons, and conures.
Don't know if this will matter, but let me give you a brief history on these birds. Male from pair 1, and female from pair 2 are proven with each other. They were clutch mates (brother and sister) that shared the same cage for over 6yrs and produced at least 2 clutches of babies that I know of. This was not my doings. I bought them as a proven pair then found out the entire history after doing some research. For this reason I've invested in proper mates for them.
