Missing a foot. Can it still breed?

Postby highdesertdiva on Fri Aug 14, 2009 1:07 pm

My friend is giving me a Rosey Bourke that lost his foot to some kind of infection. It is a young one. She said it perches well. Can a Bourke with one foot still breed? She thinks its a male, but not certain.

Probably not, as it would be extremely difficult to balance on a hen while also trying to breed with her. It's not impossible, just pretty unlikely. I have heard of larger one legged parrots successfully reproducing, however the major difference is that the larger parrots mate while standing next to eachother, not the male on top of the female.
