Quakers not sitting on Eggs

Postby birdbrain2 on Wed Aug 12, 2009 1:42 pm

I was wondering if anyone has a solution to my problem.
Have pair quakers that are bonded and laying eggs. But are not sitting on eggs. They are young and first cluth for both. Will go in nest box at nite and sit on eggs but during day they ignore them.Female has laid up to twelve eggs in nest box but none are hatching.
Any Help?? Is it maybe cause of first clutch and next year they'll be better and sit on them.
Or do I cover them in day hoping they think it is nite time and go in nest box..
All suggestions would be helpful...Thanks

How old are the pair? Perhaps they are still too young to breed. With that said, first time parents aren't always the best. Are you sure you have a male and female? Have you candled the eggs to see if they are fertile?

If it is a m/f pair, then all they might need is perhaps some more time to mature, and to learn from their mistakes.
