A bit of help.

Postby Patti In Oz on Mon Nov 17, 2008 6:42 pm

Hi everyone. I have a blue ringneck chick here that we have agreed to sell to one of hubby's workmates as a birthday present to his 6 year old daughter. I would normally be reluctant to sell an IRN for a child, but they are experienced bird people and know what they are getting into. Anyways....I would like to make up a little booklet to go along with the baby for the little girl. So geared towards what she would comprehend and appreciate. I already intend to include basic info such as training and such, but was wondering what else would help to make the baby's book special for the little girl? It's been a very long time since I have really been around a child of that age so I am a bit lost as to what she would appreciate.

Thanks,
Patti

Maybe a simple diagram identifying body parts would be fun for her, and maybe a map showing where her bird originated.

    Good luck!

You could start a scrap book type of thing and include a Hatching Certificate that lists the adult bird's names, the hatch date, the chicks leg band number, include a pedigree if you keep those on your birds. Photos of the chick (if you have them) if not you could still take photos of current chicks at different stages of growth. List when the chick first started eathing solid foods. List the date the chicks first followed the command "Step Up." I would leave the rest of the book for her to fill out.

Thanks to you both. I've included your suggestions and also just a lot of general info on training etc.... As well as a copy of my record that I kept of weights etc.... as I raised the little one. Apparently she/he was a real hit. And I now have orders for several more. Gotta get out there and motivate my pairs to go back to nest now...lol!
