The boys are magnificantly coloured, arent they? Earlier this year we had a group of a dozen or so that would come down on the lawn just 10 feet from where we sit on the verandah. The boys use their red bums and the flash of gold on their wings to impress the girls. It was wonderful to be able to watch the mating ritual from so close. Since then they have all paired off and we only see them occasionally. Obviously they are in nesting mode ATM and will return once the young fledge. I am looking forward to them coming back. The little one....Clover....is getting a bit better everyday. He is still a bit nervous. But I know he'll work out that being here with us is a pretty good place to be. Especially when you consider the alternative.....I had the unenviable task of picking up the inedible remains of 4 nestlings from a non-parrot native bird's nest yesterday. STUPID NEIGHBOURHOOD CATS!!!! We had watched this mum build her nest, sit her eggs through some pretty awful weather, and then hatch 4 beautiful chicks. They were only a week away from fledging when the nest was raided and all were lost. I've arranged to borrow a HUMANE cat trap and will catch the offender and turn him over to animal control. I really wish people were more responsible with their cats!
