Once you allow your birds to reproduce you become a breeder....

Generally speaking, lovebirds do not do well with other species because they are too aggressive. Sure, it can be done, however, it's not unheard of either for lovebirds to attack another bird through the cage bars, let alone a lovebird attacking something the size of a cockatoo!

If you want your lovebird to be a pet for yourself, do not get another lovebird. Lovebirds are quite happy little birds if they are supplied with toys and attention from their human flock. Lovebirds can and will kill not only a parakeet but have also been known to kill a cockatiel. Don't let their size fool you. They are great little birds with a big attitude. Unfortunately they think their body size is as big as their attitude size. IMO, I think the Lovie will be perfectly happy just to chirp back and forth to the parakeets and live in it's own cage. I have one pet Lovebird (Scooter) that chirps back and forth to my African Grey.

I had a parakeet when I got my 1st lovebird. They seemed very interested in each other & I asked my avian vet if they could get together. He told me NOT to let them get together, no matter how tame/socialized the love bird was (he was 4 years old & had been a hand fed baby & was sweet & friendly.) The vet said if I ignore my advice I would be calling him soon, in tears. He added, "I will not be a pretty picture!". I have heard of lovebird killing parrots three or more times their size. And the way my lovie attacks when we are playing "attack through the toilet paper tube", I believe it

Yes.....lovies always have to be watched. I even heard of someone with three lovies all together and got along great and she came home to one of them injured and bitten on the beak......by one of the other lovies! You can never trust a lovie! Although I see lots of people who do and do ok. My lovie is actually pretty good.....he's not much of an attacker or biter, but does like to nip at feet.....ya know....just to cause some trouble, well, because that's what lovies do! He really is a kind, sweet bird and I truly believe that he really likes my other birds and is not trying to be mean.....it's just his little lovie way....gotta keep on those crazy lovies!
