Are you feeding her fresh vegetables, greens, and grains such as brown rice? Did you see my post about visiting Yahoo's Feeding Feathers forum? I think you would find that site extremely helpful.

Right now, I am just giving her her regular food as the vet said not to add anything new quite yet. She won't eat rice. Now and then she will eat brocolli and brussel sprouts, but not much of it. She mostly will only eat the Kaytee pellets and the Higgins Vita Mix. Before the yeast, she ate apples and mangos and other fruits, bananas, etc. But vet said to cut out for right now, due to sugar.
She does really like the hard cracked corn that is in her Vita Food mix, but that probably is not good for her either, since it is something she likes... I hope it is ok, as she really does like to pick out the hard corn from her mix.

I am at work now, as I work 3-11 shift, but when I get more time I will try that site you listed. Thanks for giving me the site info.

What is odd to me is one of my coworkes has a cockatoo and she feeds her all kinds of people food, very little parrot food and no pellets and when I say people food, I mean pizza, etc, not veggies and fruits. Yet she has had her forever and she has not been sick once. I just don't get it. So confusing.

I have tried the "Harrisons" from my vet, numerous times and she won't touch it with a ten foot pole..sadly.

I am hoping that perhaps the meds did clear up the yeast, but the stress of the egg siting might have started it back up.

Corn is pretty empty of any nutrition, but it's not as harmful as too much fruit. It sounds like Chilli was maybe pigging out on fruit before the yeast put an end to that. Full of fruit (dessert), she didn't have enough appetite left to eat healthy vegetables, greens, and grains. It'll be a process to teach her to like healthy food, but she'll live years longer if you work on that process. Amazons usually love food so much that they are easy to train to enjoy good nutrition.

We see humans around us everyday who overeat, smoke, and drink, and still live several decades. But then they hit the wall and die prematurely or live disabled and unhappy. Amazons and cockatoos are so long-lived that we might expect a similar pattern. Your coworker's poor bird might do well for years, but not live as long as she could if fed a healthy diet.

It is hard to tell, but she did not eat alot of fresh fruit, she ate small to average amounts of it.. she did like the dried fruit in her parrot mix, but she also liked the safflower seeds and pellets and the hard corn. At least if the hard corn is not harmful to her, maybe I can hand that to her as a treat as she wants something for a treat (which used to be apples but vet said none for right now). The vet said the cherrios were ok a few a day, but I stopped those until I talk to her when she returns, just to be safe. I just need to have something safe I can hand her for a treat that she will eat. I will ask the vet more when I see her next week as I want to give her what is best for her, but also what she will eat. I don't think they wanted me to change anything much in her diet during all this, maybe so as not to stress her, I am not sure.

I did try to tell my coworker it is not healthyto give her cockatoo only people food (she even gives her M&M's and I told her chocolate could kill a bird). But I had no luck with telling her that giving only all people food is bad. She just kept saying that she never has any health problems..but as you said, it can come at once.
Chillis does not really eat any people junk food.
I thought the yogurt I was giving her was good, but then some said that the dairy is not good for yeast, so my mind is just spinnning. I was giving her distilled water then the vet said that was not good. I had just started her on tap water when she got sick again, but I doubt that had anything to do with it. I sure appreciate all the input here, it helps a great deal to hear what other bird owners feel about various things, so much.
I did not realize you have to sign up for yahoo mail to join those yahoo groups, so not sure I want to do that and get another email account, but may try it from home.

Have you tried using raw sugar snap peas as a treat? There's not a bird in my flock who doesn't LOVE them  I knew very little about nutrition when I brought my first birds home, but it's not so hard to learn when love of your bird motivates you. Granted, it's confusing when one source contradicts another, but there are some I wholly trust, so I just ignore others. Shauna Roberts, who runs the Feeding Feathers forum is an expert I've trusted for a decade. She's GOOD! I don't get any mail from the group. I just go there and read, just as we do here. You must provide an email addy to register for security purposes, just as here.

Are sugar snap peas the same as regular snap peas? She might eat that, she likes green things, like the brocolli and brussels sprouts at times. Do you feed the sugar snap peas raw or cooked?

I will join the other group from home if you feel they are that trustworthy...plus will have a long talk with vet next week about what I can and should not feed her in a more in depth manner.

Would like to be over this long seige of animal illness, if it is not Chilli it is one of the cats, on a non stop, it seems, vet visit and worries.

Treat Chilli with raw ones, but steam your own:

Spencergirl, you shouldn't need to create a Yahoo e-mail address to join a group...

Try sending an e-mail to this address ---> FeedingFeathers-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

If that doesn't work, e-mail the list owner and see if they can figure out how to add you without having a YH account....
