If you're ever in the Brevard County Florida area this is worth seeing.
Jerry and I went to our local zoo today. http://www.brevardzoo.org One of their big attractions is a large aviary (at least 50'x 50') of free flight Austrailan and African birds. ALL hand tame! The first section had cockatiels, several kinds of bat, and a few parrots we didn't reconize. The bats were asleep, but the other birds flew around and a few begged for a scratches. There were at least 20 cockatiels. The next section was were the babies could be observed and where you could buy nector to take into the next sections which was LORIES!!! In that sections were several kinds of Rainbow Lories, a pair of all red lories (I forgot the name) a pair of Eclectus, a pair of Rose Breasted Cockatoos, a pair of Amboina King Parrots, and a Cookabara. We pet all of these, they fly to a rail and beg for scratches behind the head, if you stand there a second they'll land all over you. Back to the nector cups, you can buy a little cup of nector to take in, then the sweet lories fly and sit on your hand drinking. The next secton there are hornbills and turacos. Several types of each. A couple of the turacos came up to be talked to and get a scratch.
The second time we went through the avairy it was almost noon and they turned on sprinklers from above (people and birds alike could aviod the water or get in). Jerry had made friends with a Lory the first time and as soon as we walked in it flew onto his hat, then they went and rain danced together... it felt good... it was 96 degrees at that point.
