I'm a bad bird mommy!

Postby Mercy4Free on Wed Apr 30, 2008 7:50 pm

I feel HORRIBLE. When I was changing putting my bird cages back together, I noticed I needed to change my finches' (I have two zebras) food dish.

Well, I noticed last night that they were huddled together (I just thought they were cold and covered them for bed) and mom said they had been like that today too. So I went out there to find out what was up. I HADN'T PUT THEIR FOOD IN THEIR CAGE! Must've got sidetracked. That means they didn't have food yesterday or today. I feel HORRIBLE! They do have a seed treat bar, but they don't eat it much.

POOR BABIES!

Does anyone know if they don't eat if they get cold natured or something? Just wondering....

Well I guess anyone would be crabby when they hadn't eaten for a while. As long as you fed them before they keeled over they'll be ok. We've all done something like that at one time or another and it does make you feel terrible and it should. I dont forget to feed myself. In the meantime give yourself 23 lashes with a millet spray and then feed it to your birds. :D

Don't beat yourself up too bad. We're all human, and we've all made mistakes. I bet you never forget again!

One time, when I was pulling out the bowls with fresh food from all my birds' cages, I took the pellet bowl from my RB2's cage instead. Since only the stuff he doesn't like was left in the bowl, he didn't get anything to eat for several hours. I felt bad for the poor guy. I wouldn't have been as good natured as he was at the time.

They seemed okay this morning when I left for work. Not as puffed up as they had been. Glad they are okay. I don't know what I would've done had they died and it was my fault!

One time not long after I got my lovie Pip, I put his water dish in cage backwards! Well it has this little cover over it to protect it from poop and whatever else, well that was covering the water so he couldn't get to it! because I had put it in backwards by mistake! I did notice it by night time, but he went most of the day with no water :( He has a new cage now and new dishes that aren't like that, but when I saw what I had done, I felt bad too!

Awww, poor babies. Try not to beat yourself up to bad over this. Although I have never left Rosie hungry I have made my mistakes that have hurt my sweet little girl. Just don't let it happen again.

Yah, that's easily done, getting side tracked... glad they are okay - birds do need the energy from the food to stay warm, so if it was cold then it uses more energy to stay warm. Birds only can live for about two days without no food.

unfortunately we've all done it at some point... now i make it a point to go around to each cage after i'm done cleaning and double check everyone has their food and water. No mistakes in a long time doing it that way!
