"new" cage

Postby Mercy4Free on Mon Apr 28, 2008 9:25 pm

Well, if you were following my cage thread, you know I got a "new" cage for my finches at a yardsale. I painted it and the finches have now "moved on up" into their new cage. I still hope to find them a wide cage instead of a tall one, but they seem so much happier!

It makes me happy to see them actually fly from perch to perch and to just get in the middle and flutter in place. They couldn't do that in the old cage. Here is the old cage (my tiel was in it for a bit when I got him then he got a bigger cage, but I don't have a picture of the finches in it):

Here are two shots of the new cage:

The cage could use more perches... natural ones? Or maybe one straight up the middle (or down)?

Otherwise though, it looks fantastic! (I don't really know what types of toys finches may like, so can't comment there)

I've got almost the same exact cage, only it's one story... Black bottom & tray, design on door uses two instead of one whatever it is... Good little temporary cage!

Yeah I am going tomorrow to buy them one of the branch perches with the multiple skinny branches since they are little. I have another perch I was going to put in there but gotta to buy a wingnut for it.

Oh and also.......they like to sit in their little ring toy you probably can't. Its one of those hanging things with the multiple rings. They fit well in it they are so little!

Ah, lol! I know what you mean! I used to have a budgie who loved to play inside the rings, and just climb from one to the other!

Question: Where do you suggest I put the new perches? I don't want to block their ability to fly in it with perches (because that would negate part of the point of the new cage). I have their two plastic perches catticornered one lower with direct flight access to the higher one in the opposite corner. They also have their rope perch I made them at the top, their rings toward the back of the top and their swing at the top.

I'd say maybe middle to lower portion... that is, if they do use the lower part of the cage, as well. Gives them a bit more variety without overcrowding them.
