Opinions wanted about birdie diaper

Postby 1chloe1 on Sun Apr 06, 2008 2:49 pm

I have a TAG. I have trained her to wear the "Flight Suit" / "Birdy Diaper". There was a lady at my house the other night that saw it and was totally discusted. She said "I wouldn't want a bag of poop hanging off of me"

I don't understand. I change the diaper all the time. It keeps the poop off of the bird and off of my furniture. (My bird is fully flighted and has free range of my house.)
The way this lady talked down to me was really shocking!
What do other people think of this?
Personally I think that it is more sanitary than having poop all over my house.

Thanks for your opinions.

Considering the amount of poop a bird makes vs a dog or cat in one day, it really isn't all that much, doesn't really smell, and it's easy to clean... either clean it fresh, or let it dry, then clean up. However, considering how much birds eat, they DO eat more food than mammals, which equals to more waste!

Some people are against birdy diapers because they believe that it hides the birds true beauty... and others just don't care for dressing up pets... I may collar or harness an animal, but I'm not really one for dressing a pet up...

So long as your TAG continues to go to the bathroom while wearing the diaper, and isn't in any discomfort, I see no harm using one.

And if the woman ever says anything about it, just tell her that your TAG is not potty trained like a dog to "go outside" (even though yes birds can be potty trained! Potty trained more like a cat or human, to go only in certain areas), and birds go frequently so if you didn't use it (not abuse it's use) then you'd have poop all over the house! And you could try and politely explain/show to her how the mess is kept off of your bird, and that you change the lining frequently.

Ask her if she thinks it's disgusting for babies to run around with a bag of poop hanging off *them* for the couple of years it takes for them to get the hang of potty training... heheheheee

    just a thought,

I would be more offended if i went to someones house who had bird poop every where, compared to someone whose bird is whereing something perfectly safe, sanitary, and less messy bird diaper. The poop doesnt even touch the bird and if you change the liner regulary, i see no problem.
