Okay, I have mentioned it a couple of times in other posts but now the announcement. I couldn't help myself!!! My family makes me embarassed to admit it but I did it. One of the positive things about moving to Ohio is that I can have a quaker, so...on February 24th I brought home Daisy Mae. She is a beautiful pallid quaker and hatched on October 3. I haven't been able to take any pictures yet, but I will.
Daisy is so sweet and her feathers are so soft. She lets me preen her new neck feathers and loves to have her face rubbed. I am thrilled with her and can't get over how different she is from a caique. She is about the same size, but weighs a lot less. Her beak is also much less powerful! Daisy loves to nibble on my face! I guess she is preening me. She also purrs when she is happy.
I am not going to have her DNA'ed because I don't care what sex she is and I AM NOT GOING TO GET ANOTHER ONE! The breeder thought she was female, so I gave her a girly name. She is starting to really vocalize a lot of human sounds, but is not saying anything that I can understand, but I think that she will soon.
Quakers are much louder than caiques, but she is getting better about squawking as she hears Yankee and I whistling to each other when he can't see me.
Yankee's cage is now about 15 feet from hers but they seem to communicate with each other. I haven't tried them together. She is shy and Yank is pretty fierce.
If anyone has a quaker and a caique, please let me know if you ever let them play together.
