Look folks, its no secret here, humans have captured and maintained birds as pets for thousands of years. In fact we (as a species) have enjoyed birds as companion pets long before cats and dogs. We need not invent the wheel in this case.
Rule number ONE is not do harm to the pets we maintain as companions. Long before we entertain discussion about food, toys, or interacting with our feathered companions we begin with a safe home in which certain general rules are followed. The first of such discussions is proper bar spacing.
We should also never, for the sake of a "good deal" or sale, sacrifice the quality of care for the buck!
The bottom line is that caring for a pet should never be a manor of being cheaper, look this is a hobby or some people refer to it as a luxury, not a necessity. If you really want to save money don't own one!
So with that in mind a one inch bar spacing for Diamond Doves is completely out of question here!
If you find my line of reasoning or answers harsh, well I'm just an old Retired US Marine and I care a lot about our feathered pets. Less so about sugar coating my response and more in the line of safety and reasoning based on a life time of caring for and raising many species including Diamond Doves (which I give away to nursing homes in the Michigan area) I have over 25 years with these particular birds and find them to be one of my favorites (that's why I share them with older adults)
So please take the above suggestion and dump that cage as "one of those impulse buys everyone of us does on occasion" and opt for the correct accommodations for your pets.
