If you are driving, just have a travel cage with low perches food and a water bottle. You will have to find pet friendly hotels, but it isn't that hard to drive with a bird, just remember to fasten their seatbelts!!

If you aren't driving, you can contact the airlines near you and find out what kind of crate is needed and what the costs are. This is the most common form of shipping birds since it is easy. USPS, Fed Ex, and UPS do not allow you to ship birds as far as I know.

USPS may actually... depending on what's being shipped. I don't know how animals are shipped via plane, but I do recall my grandmother working for the post office, running a mail route through an urban area. Every now and then there would be chickens and turkeys, just chicklets, newly born, being shipped through.

Unless the rules have changed in the last couple years, this is illegal for USPS.

This was probably about 10 years ago, give or take... that I'm thinking about. The chicks were shipped via air (as I understood it), then traveled via a USPS employee to their destination. I recall once dropping off a box of turkeys to a cozy little home in a remote area. The chicks were in a box, with was divided up into 4 sections.

The box was much like the one in the picture below, although not so large.

I can't imagine that things have changed since, so I looked up shipping chicks [i.e. chickens and turkeys], and found this website.
Day-old Baby Chicks: Behind the Scenes

Shipping parrots however is comlpetely different to shipping chickens or turkeys, since these birds can't survive for up to 72 hours without food and water as chicks, and I'd doubt as adults. In that regard, it's best to ship parrots with a bit of food as well as moist fruits and veggies. I also looked up shipping parrots, and the following website confirms that it is illegal to ship parrots via USPS.
Air Travel Guide to Shipping Birds

Which is why I had stated the following...
USPS may actually... depending on what's being shipped.

Sorry if that left any confusion. I decided to look up what animals *can* be shipped via USPS and found this...
