Earthquakes and birds

Postby christie on Mon Jun 07, 2010 9:09 pm

For those who live where the earth shakes, how do you deal with the night fright caused by a late night earthquake? My birds have a nightlight, but that does nothing when the earth moves. I spent 30+ minutes last night consoling my IRN after an earthquake last night. The cockatiels and finches calmed down after 20 minutes and soft talking, but the IRN needed to be held until she stopped shaking out of fright. She wouldn't even sit on her perch for a while.

Interesting enough, the earthquake wasn't strong, 3.6 at the epicenter and that was quite a distance from us. I wouldn't have even known about it if the birds didn't react.

edited because apparently I can't spell! lol

    Not well!! lol

The finches and cockatiels were all over their cages when it happened. Unfortunately, I was in bed and had to run out to see what happened since we didn't feel it at all.
