Hello everyone. I have 2 macaws that I need to get rid of. I have raised them form babies, but my youngest have developed a bad allergy to them and for the health of my family, saddly I have to give them up. I know this is not the correct place to post it, but I do not know where to go. If you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Very sorry to read this. Unfortunately, there's hardly anyone here anymore except breeders who lurk, some willing to take a problem bird off your hands, so be very careful. In these hard times, there seem to be far more people wanting to give their birds away than eager to buy, or even adopt for free. Rescues and shelters are full, with waiting lists of birds to be relinquished when a space opens. If you have a bird club in your area, those good folks might be your best resource.

My best to you and them ...

Thanks. I have tried them, but did not get the best feeling with the person I talked to. I have hand raised these two from babies and they are now 5 and 8 years old. My 2 year old however, is the one having the health issues with them and I do not find it fair to put him through it. However, I will not just pass off the birds to any Tom richard or Harry who wants to "play" bird owner for a a brief bt and then mistreat them. Maybe I am being too picky, but I want to keep in touch with the person who takes them. I will hold on to them untill I find a good home. Thanks again !!!!

You also might say what kind of macaws they are.

Wish I lives closer as I would love to provide a home to them. Unfortunately I live in Texas.

They are a Catilina and a Sever. The Catalina has never NOT had the Sever around. They share a double cage and are best buddies. I have had to move them to the basement and the Catalina is not happy about it. He has taken to plucking and I am hoping that I can find help soon so the damage can stop. They are full flighted, although the Catalina is lazy and would rather walk everywhere. Their wings have never been clipped. I would be more than happy to share as much information as someone would like, I just did not want ot get in trouble or start an argument for posting in the wrong spot!! Thanks to ALL for the advice!!

Carter's Dad, are you sure the allergy is from the birds? Have you spoken to a doctor about it?

I am glad you are being selective because there are people who will take them and say they are going to give them a good home but will end up selling them or using them as breeders. That happens all the time.

Can you PM me and tell me where you are and I'll see what I can do about getting the word out to some knowledgable people.

Yes, the doctor has said that he is 99.8% sure that it is the birds. We have been testing and looking into different reasons for a while. Like I said, I would not be looking unless I felt it was the only thing to do.

i just saw this post and my suggestion would be to join other bird forums to rehome them. there is "talk parrots", "the parrot forum," parrot forum, etc.
just to name a few. people on these forums are bird lovers and they understand how this can happen and may be able to help.
there are a lot of forums out there. best to try them first before you "craigslist" them or something.
good luck to you and hope you find a great home for your birdies.
